Tequila, Jalisco Mayor Arrested in Operativo Enjambre for Alleged CJNG Ties

The municipal president (mayor) of Tequila, Jalisco — home to Mexico's iconic tequila-producing highlands — was arrested as part of the ongoing Operativo Enjambre sweep targeting corrupt local officials with alleged CJNG connections. The arrest extends a documented pattern of municipal-level institutional capture: earlier in March, five Chavinda, Michoacán officials were detained in the same operation (March 19–20). Charges include extortion, homicide facilitation, and functioning as a CJNG liaison official. The Tequila arrest underscores the cartel's deep penetration of Jalisco's governmental infrastructure — the state at the heart of CJNG's historical operational base.
