Industry Ministry, NOC and GECOL Discuss Shifting Power Plants From Liquid Fuel to LNG

| Libya Conflict

Libya's Ministry of Industry and Minerals, represented by Undersecretary Mustafa Al-Samou, met with National Oil Corporation and General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) representatives on September 8, 2026 to discuss the feasibility of supplying power plants with liquefied natural gas instead of liquid fuel. The talks examined technical, economic, and logistical aspects of the switch, aiming to cut electricity generation costs, improve operational efficiency, and stabilize supply, and follow a summer marked by severe blackouts, fuel shortages, water scarcity, and drone strikes on oil and power infrastructure.
