Lebanese, Israeli Ambassadors Meet in Washington to Discuss Framework Implementation
Lebanon's Ambassador Nada Mouawad and Israel's Ambassador Yechiel Leiter met at the U.S. State Department to discuss recent developments and continued implementation of the U.S.-sponsored trilateral framework agreed between Lebanon and Israel in June. A State Department official said the meeting would cover 'current developments,' describing the framework as the only viable mechanism for restoring Lebanese sovereignty and Israeli security. Lebanese officials said no decisions or agreements were expected, describing the meeting as a way to keep communication open following recent setbacks. The formal eighth round of Lebanon-Israel negotiations, originally due in Rome in September, has been postponed to October. Separately, President Aoun traveled to Paris the same day for talks and preparatory discussions on army aid.
