Israel-Hezbollah Bilateral Cessation Agreement; 35 Killed in Continued Strikes

| Lebanon

Israel and Hezbollah reached a bilateral cessation agreement on June 1, 2026: Israel committed not to target Beirut's southern suburbs (Dahiyeh), while Hezbollah pledged not to attack Israeli territory. The agreement was seen as a precursor measure ahead of Round 4 Washington talks. However, the truce was immediately contested by continued violence — 35 people were killed in Israeli strikes across Lebanon on the same day. The IDF 146th Division was formally withdrawn from southern Lebanon after completing its mission phase, but other units including the 36th, 91st, and 98th Divisions remained deployed. The partial withdrawal was not accompanied by IDF evacuation of strategic positions including Beaufort Castle, captured the day before.
