Israeli Airstrikes Continue Across South Lebanon Killing ~23 Per Day as Washington Talks Approach
Israeli airstrikes continued across southern and eastern Lebanon, with the Lebanese Health Ministry recording an average of approximately 23 people killed per day between May 13–17. The cumulative death toll since Israel's renewed operations began on March 2 was approaching 3,000. Strikes targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in south Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Beirut suburbs. The IDF continued operations despite a scheduled round of US-mediated peace negotiations set for May 14–15 in Washington DC, raising questions about Israel's commitment to a ceasefire while simultaneously engaging in diplomacy.
