India–Japan Summit Concludes with Energy Resilience Pact, Bullet Train Commitment
The 16th India-Japan Annual Summit concluded July 3, 2026 with a Joint Statement in which Prime Ministers Modi and Takaichi adopted a Joint Statement on Energy Resilience and reaffirmed the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail as a flagship project, with Japan committing continued cooperation toward commercial operations targeted for 2027. The two leaders also discussed defense ties and cooperation in AI and semiconductors, deepening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
