Israeli Drone Strike Kills Basir al-Bursh, Son of Gaza Health Ministry Chief, in Jabalia; Separate Strikes Kill Three More Across Gaza

An Israeli drone strike killed Basir al-Bursh, eldest son of Gaza Health Ministry director-general Munir al-Bursh, in the az-Zahra neighborhood west of Jabalia refugee camp on Saturday, September 19, 2026. According to his brother, Dr. Mohammed al-Bursh, Basir had been helping displaced people fill water containers near a tent when he was struck; he was rushed to hospital already having lost significant blood and was pronounced dead on arrival. Footage showed Munir al-Bursh carrying his son's body to the ambulance, saying, 'He [Basir] told me, "The Israelis are targeting both of us"; I replied, "Good, at least we will go to heaven together."' In separate incidents the same day: an Israeli drone struck a civilian vehicle in the Sheikh Radwan market area of Gaza City, killing one person and wounding at least four, including two children, with the vehicle burning for roughly 30 minutes; a strike in the Shujayea neighborhood east of Gaza City killed one more Palestinian; a girl died north of Nuseirat refugee camp from gunfire injuries sustained the previous day; and a woman and another person were wounded by gunfire east of Maghazi refugee camp. The IDF did not comment on the strikes at the time. A day later, Israeli reporting attributed to the IDF and Shin Bet named a man it identified as 'Basir al-Barsh' as a Nukhba Force commander killed in weekend strikes on Gaza — a claim Gaza's Health Ministry and the al-Bursh family dispute, describing Basir as a civilian aid worker. Gaza's Health Ministry put the post-ceasefire toll at 1,390+ killed and the cumulative toll since October 7, 2023 at 73,910+.
