| Israel-Palestine

Iman Shalouf, 27, who was roughly seven months pregnant, died on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Nasser Hospital from a gunshot wound to the head sustained days earlier while sitting inside her family's tent in the al-Rayyan/Tebbet al-Rayyan displacement camps near al-Mawasi, southwest of Khan Younis. Her mother-in-law, Wathfa Abu Mashi, said gunfire was heard from the direction of a nearby Israeli military position in the 'Yellow Zone' northwest of al-Mawasi before Shalouf was found bleeding from the head. Doctors initially detected her unborn child's heartbeat, but both mother and baby -- whom the family had named Ayoub -- died within hours. The Israel Defense Forces said it was looking into the incident. Her death came amid a Gaza Health Ministry report that 10 Palestinians were killed and 56 wounded in Israeli attacks over the preceding 48 hours.
