Hamas Delegation Arrives in Cairo for Ceasefire Implementation Talks; Egypt Hosts New Round of Negotiations
A senior Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on June 5–6, 2026 for a new round of ceasefire implementation talks with Egyptian mediators. Qatar and Turkey joined as co-mediators. The talks focused on completing Phase 1 ceasefire implementation, re-opening border crossings, improving humanitarian aid access, international force deployment proposals, and preliminary discussions about Phase 2 disarmament proposals under Trump's Board of Peace framework. Hamas told the mediating delegations that ending Israeli assassinations and targeted killings was an essential precondition for any substantive progress. The Cairo talks follow the collapse of the El-Alamein talks on June 3 when Hamas categorically rejected weapons surrender as a precondition. This new round represents Egyptian-mediated shuttle diplomacy aimed at finding common ground on the sequence of Phase 2 steps before any formal talks on disarmament.
