Iran Human Rights Monitor Reports 23+ Executions in Late-August Surge, 10 New Death Sentences Over Isfahan Protests

Iran Human Rights Monitor documented a fresh surge in state executions and death sentences tied to the January 2026 protest crackdown. Between August 23-26 alone, at least 23 prisoners were executed across Ghezel Hesar, Lakan, Zahedan, Yazd, Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad, Karaj, Maku, Semnan, Dehdasht, Khorramabad, and Sari prisons. Separately, ten defendants — Taraneh Rahimi, Navid Elyasi, Abolfazl Dadgostar, Mehdi Mansouri, Ahmadreza Saeedi, Mehrdad Boeiri, Mohammadmehdi Asadi, Armin Gholami, Parsa Jafari, and Mehdi Jafari — were sentenced to death by Isfahan Revolutionary Court judges Morteza Barati and Mohammadreza Tavakoli over the Shohada Square protests, on charges of 'moharebeh' (enmity against God) and property destruction. Leila Abolhasani was separately sentenced to death for moharebeh over January protests in Shahin Shahr, and the Supreme Court affirmed the death sentence of Ali Asghar Peyghambari, who was transferred to Ghezel Hesar Prison for execution.
