Islamic Republic Executes Four Young Men Convicted for 2022 Uprising
Within a 48-hour period, Iran executed four young men convicted on charges related to participation in the 2022 'Woman, Life, Freedom' uprising. In addition to Mehrab Abdollahzadeh executed in Urmia, three others were executed in Mashhad — all accused of activities during the 2022 nationwide protests. The rapid-succession executions were condemned by Iran Human Rights (Oslo) and Amnesty International as part of a deliberate policy of deterrence through capital punishment. Seven female political prisoners at Evin Prison were simultaneously denied family visits for three weeks as punishment for participating in the 'No to Execution Tuesdays' campaign. Human rights advocates noted that 2026 was on track to be the deadliest year for executions in Iran in decades.
