US and Iran Agree in Principle to Extend 60-Day Islamabad MOU Ceasefire Ahead of Aug 17 Deadline
Pakistani government sources said Washington and Tehran have conveyed consent to mediators to extend the 60-day ceasefire framework under the June 17 Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which is due to expire August 17. The two sides are still exchanging messages through Pakistani intermediaries to settle on an extension period. The underlying MOU talks have been stalled for weeks over disagreements on security guarantees and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran's naval blockade of the strait has continued throughout.
