UNIFIL Peacekeeper Killed in Southern Lebanon — UN Demands Protection

| Iran Conflict

A United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeper was killed in an attack on a UN position in southern Lebanon on or around March 29-30. UN Secretary-General Guterres issued an urgent statement demanding all parties cease attacks on UNIFIL positions and personnel, calling the death 'an unacceptable escalation.' The killing marks one of the most direct impacts of the Lebanon front on international peacekeeping forces deployed since the 2006 war. The IDF maintained its declared 30km security zone to the Litani River and continued strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in the south despite the UNIFIL fatality.
