Animal Feed Shortage Threatens Meat and Dairy Supply
Iranian livestock farmers warn of an imminent collapse in meat and dairy production as imported animal feed becomes unaffordable following the elimination of the preferential exchange rate. Customs data shows feed imports have fallen sharply since early December. Poultry farmers in Isfahan and Khorasan provinces report culling flocks they can no longer afford to feed. The Ministry of Agriculture acknowledges the crisis but offers no timeline for relief, as the government lacks the foreign currency to subsidize agricultural imports.
