Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake Strikes Off Southwest Sumba, No Tsunami Threat
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck at sea about 14 km southwest of Kodi in Southwest Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, at 05:55 WIB on October 4, 2026, at a depth of 10 km. Authorities said it posed no tsunami threat, and the local disaster agency (BPBD) began field monitoring; no casualties or damage had been reported at the time of the report. It followed a smaller M5.9 quake near Tambolaka on October 3, in a region still recovering from the magnitude-7.7 Flores earthquake of August 15 that killed 53.
