NLSIU Reverses Course, Reschedules 34th Convocation to October 17

| India Youth Uprising

Six weeks after cancelling its Sep 12 convocation outright, NLSIU's Executive Council and General Council — both meeting on Sep 9 — set a new date of October 17, 2026 for the 34th Annual Convocation, in a decision communicated to graduating students the following day. The university's Alumni Association Governing Board, which said it had engaged in 'sustained dialogue' with NLS and other stakeholders including the Chief Justice of India, cited the 'larger interests, aspirations and legitimate expectations of the graduating students' and said an 'overwhelming' majority of the Batch of 2026 want a formal ceremony rather than degrees conferred purely in absentia. Graduating students may still choose to receive their degree in absentia. Neither the university nor the Alumni Association's statement confirms whether Chief Justice Surya Kant will attend the rescheduled ceremony, leaving the original dispute over his presence unresolved even as the boycott-driven cancellation itself is reversed.
