Indian and Pakistani Warships Collide in North Arabian Sea; New Delhi Summons Pakistani Envoy

An Indian Navy warship, reported by multiple outlets as the Kolkata-class guided-missile destroyer INS Kolkata, and a Pakistan Navy vessel, reported as the Yarmook-class corvette PNS Hunain (participating in Pakistan's biennial SEASPARK-26 exercise), made contact in international waters of the North Arabian Sea on the evening of September 15, 2026, roughly 120-130 nautical miles east of the Omani coast. India's account, given by the Ministry of External Affairs on September 16, says the Pakistani vessel 'closed in' on the larger Indian warship at high speed, manoeuvring in an 'unprofessional and unsafe manner,' and that the incident violated Article 10 of the 1991 India-Pakistan Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements. India summoned Pakistan's Chargé d'Affaires in New Delhi to lodge a formal protest. Pakistan's account, given via its Foreign Office on September 16, says the Indian warship INS Kolkata conducted 'aggressive manoeuvres in dangerously close proximity' to a Pakistani naval unit inside Pakistan's Exclusive Economic Zone, calling it a 'highly provocative and unacceptable action' and itself a violation of the 1991 agreement; Pakistan's FO summoned India's Chargé d'Affaires in Islamabad in response. No casualties were reported by either side, and neither government has confirmed the extent of any damage to the vessels.
