SATP Analysis: 90 Militants Remain Active in J&K; Only One LOC Violation in 2026

| India-Pakistan

A Eurasia Review security analysis published March 31, 2026, citing South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) data, assessed that approximately 90 terrorists remain active in Jammu & Kashmir: roughly 40–50 in the Jammu region and 40 in the Kashmir Valley. The data indicated at least 10 terrorist and associate fatalities in J&K year-to-date as of March 28, 2026 — a lower tempo than previous years. Significantly, only one LOC ceasefire violation was recorded in all of 2026 (February 20, Kupwara/Nowgam sector), a sharp contrast with 5,133 violations in 2020 and ~219 in 2024. The February 2021 ceasefire agreement between DGMOs of India and Pakistan along the LOC has broadly held despite the diplomatic deterioration following Operation Sindoor.
