ICE 'Operation Safe Community — Atlanta' Nets 1,226 Arrests Across Georgia
ICE announced August 13, 2026 that its multi-day 'Operation Safe Community — Atlanta' enforcement surge resulted in 1,226 arrests across the Atlanta metro area and greater Georgia. The agency said more than 700 of those arrested had criminal histories or charges including sex crimes, crimes against children, aggravated assault, assault and battery, drug trafficking, burglary, weapons offenses, and driving while intoxicated. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Acting Assistant Director Patricia Hyde said officers 'arrested and removed dangerous criminal offenders from American communities,' while ICE's Marcos Charles said agents had 'adapted' tactics in response to protests and interference attempts. The operation followed a July 2026 monthly high of roughly 51,000 ICE arrests nationwide and came amid ongoing protests against ICE in metro Atlanta and a congressional bill from Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA) seeking to bar TSA from sharing passenger data with ICE.
