Fidesz Wins Historic Supermajority — Returns to Power After 8 Years

| Hungary

On April 11 and 25, 2010, Viktor Orbán's Fidesz-KDNP coalition won 52.7% of the vote across two rounds, translating into 263 of 386 parliamentary seats — a two-thirds supermajority enabling constitutional changes without opposition consent. The coalition gained 33.4 percentage points over second-place MSZP. The result ended eight years of Socialist-led government marred by the 2006 Gyurcsány tape scandal, the 2008 financial crisis, and deep public disillusionment.
