UN: At Least 5,700 Killed or Wounded in Haiti Gang Crisis So Far This Year

| Haiti

UN human rights officials reported on October 2 that gang violence is continuing to adapt and expand: at least 5,700 people killed or wounded this year, over 1,000 women and girls raped and 230 kidnappings recorded (real figures likely higher). More than half of casualties occurred in the context of security operations, including stray bullets and explosive drones. Between 30% and 50% of gang members are reportedly minors. The Gang Suppression Force has about 1,500 personnel deployed against a target of 5,500.
