OAS Secretary General Ramdin Urges Haiti to Accelerate Voter Registration
OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin concluded a three-day visit to Port-au-Prince on August 19, 2026, warning that voter registration "needs to be accelerated, needs to be intensified" roughly a month after registration centers opened for the December 13 elections. Only about 260,000 voters had registered — well below expectations — with gang-controlled municipalities lacking registration facilities and nearly 1.5 million people displaced nationwide, raising concerns about their ability to vote. Ramdin also urged OAS member states and international partners to fulfill outstanding pledges to the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force.
