CEP Sets December 13, 2026 for Haiti's First Elections in a Decade

Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) published its 2026-2027 electoral calendar on July 27, 2026, setting December 13, 2026 as the date for the first round of presidential and legislative elections, alongside a constitutional referendum — Haiti's first national vote in a decade. A runoff and local elections are scheduled for February 21, 2027, with preliminary results expected February 22 and final results in March. Preliminary results for the December 13 first round are expected December 19, with final results January 9, 2027. The CEP explicitly conditioned the timetable on the existence of an 'acceptable security environment' and availability of financing, an acknowledgment that gang control of large parts of the capital and interior could still force further delay. The date supersedes PM Fils-Aimé's earlier May 12, 2026 abandonment of the original August 30, 2026 target.
