GSF Full Operations Scheduled to Launch June 1 — Force at ~800 Personnel; MSF Cité Soleil Hospital Day 18, No Reopening Timeline
As of May 27, 2026, the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) — the UN-authorized multinational security mission that succeeded the Kenya-led MSS on April 28 — is scheduled to formally begin full operations on June 1, 2026, a milestone confirmed in Haitian media coverage. The advance force currently numbers approximately 800 personnel: 400+ Chadian troops (of a pledged 1,500 expected by June 2026), approximately 75 Guatemalans, and approximately 70 Salvadorans. The force is commanded by Mongolian Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri, who arrived Haiti on May 14. The June 1 full operations launch occurs against a backdrop of deteriorating security: on May 26–27, gang forces seized Nan Brooklyn, Chancerelles, Nan Tokyo, Nan Barozi, and Delmas 2 and 4 in central Port-au-Prince — zones just outside the narrow city center corridor where the GSF currently operates. Despite pledges exceeding the authorized 5,500-person ceiling from 13 contributing nations (with over $200M pledged and $59M disbursed), the GSF will enter full operations at less than 15% of its eventual authorized strength. Full 5,500-person deployment is not expected until fall–end 2026. MSF's hospital in Cité Soleil simultaneously entered its 18th consecutive day of closure on May 27 — well past the threshold of any 'temporary' operational suspension. The hospital serves as the only emergency health facility for approximately 300,000 residents living under total gang control in Cité Soleil, a commune the GSF has not yet entered. No reopening timeline has been announced. The convergence of the GSF June 1 operational launch with the ongoing MSF closure, fresh gang territorial seizures, and the imminent US Supreme Court ruling on TPS for ~350,000 Haitian nationals defines Haiti's security and humanitarian trajectory as the summer of 2026 begins.
