UN Resolution 2653: Haiti Sanctions Regime Established
The UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2653, establishing the first comprehensive sanctions regime targeting Haiti since 2001. It imposed travel bans, asset freezes, and an arms embargo on individuals responsible for gang violence, including Jimmy Chérizier. A dedicated UN Sanctions Committee was created. Critics argued the measures were too limited to change facts on the ground.
