Eurozone July Inflation Rises to 2.9% as Energy Costs Climb on Middle East Tensions
Eurostat's flash estimate showed eurozone annual inflation rising to 2.9% in July from 2.8% in June, with core inflation (ex-food and energy) ticking up to 2.5% from 2.4%. Energy prices posted the highest annual rate of any component at 10.0%, followed by services at 3.3%, as the July 23 Red Sea/Hormuz oil shock pushed crude and fuel costs higher across the bloc. Inflation ranged widely by member state, from 2.0% in Estonia to 5.6% in Lithuania.
