USTR Launches Section 301 Investigations into Excess Manufacturing Capacity Across 16 Economies

USTR Jamieson Greer self-initiated Section 301 investigations under the Trade Act of 1974 targeting structural excess manufacturing capacity in 16 economies: China, EU, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Japan, and India. Targeted sectors include steel, aluminum, semiconductors, EVs, batteries, solar modules, and robotics. Investigations are on an expedited basis with tariff imposition targeted around July 24, 2026. A second parallel investigation into forced labor practices was initiated on March 12, covering 60 economies.
