Parliament Passes Foreign Agents Registration Act
Parliament passed the Foreign Agents Registration Act in its third reading; the President signed it April 2 and it entered into force June 1, 2025. NGO and media directors who fail to register as acting on behalf of a 'foreign principal' face criminal prosecution and up to five years in prison. It builds on the 2024 'Transparency of Foreign Influence' law requiring groups with over 20% foreign funding to register as serving foreign interests.
