Israeli Strikes Kill 10 in Nuseirat and Gaza City Police Station, Two Days After US Asked Israel to Draw Down Attacks

Israel carried out two separate strikes in Gaza on August 19, 2026. The first hit central Gaza's Nuseirat refugee camp, killing one person the IDF identified as a Hamas company commander who took part in the October 7, 2023 attack. Less than half an hour later, the military struck a police station in Gaza City, killing nine — including eight police officers and 13-year-old Dana al-Jamasi — and wounding 15. The IDF said 'at least four terrorists from the military wing' of Hamas were present at the targeted location. The strikes came just two days after US negotiators reportedly asked Israel to draw down attacks in Gaza during Jared Kushner's visit, and the Board of Peace remained conspicuously silent on both strikes. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the Board of Peace has provided 'cover' for Israel to escalate its attacks instead of pressuring it to abide by the ceasefire.
