Hamas Confirms Mohammed Odeh's Death — 4th Qassam Brigades Commander Killed Since October 7

| Gaza War

On May 27, 2026 (Day 959 / Eid al-Adha), Hamas officially confirmed the death of Mohammed Odeh, commander of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades — the group's military wing. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz also issued a formal statement confirming the killing. Odeh was eliminated just 11 days after his predecessor Izz al-Din al-Haddad was killed on May 16. Odeh was described as a former Hamas intelligence chief and was considered one of the last senior commanders directly involved in planning the October 7, 2023 massacre. His elimination marks the fourth time since October 7 that Israel has killed the head of Hamas's military wing: Mohammed Deif (killed July 2024), Yahya Sinwar (killed October 2024, though he was Hamas's supreme leader), and al-Haddad (killed May 16, 2026) preceded Odeh. Analysts noted that Hamas continued to fill command positions despite repeated targeted killings, though each successive killing represented a degradation of experienced leadership. The confirmation of Odeh's death came as Eid al-Adha prayers and gatherings continued across Gaza amid the ongoing military operations.
