Israeli Forces Have Now Intercepted 41 Flotilla Vessels; 10 Nations' Foreign Ministers Condemn 'Violations of International Law'
Israeli naval forces intercepted 6 additional vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla on May 19, 2026 (Day 951 of the war), bringing the total number of boats boarded to approximately 41. The named vessels intercepted on May 19 included the Andros, Zefiro, Don Juan, Alcyone, and Elengi. At the time of reporting, 10 vessels remained at sea, sailing approximately 224 km from Gaza. Hundreds of activists from over 40 nations were being transported by Israeli naval ship to an undisclosed port. In response, the foreign ministers of 10 countries — Turkey, Spain, Jordan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Indonesia, Colombia, Libya, and the Maldives — issued a joint statement condemning the Israeli operation as 'blatant violations of international law.' UN human rights experts also called on Israel to immediately release all detained flotilla activists and warned the interceptions may violate international maritime law and the prohibition on collective punishment. Irish President Catherine Connolly expressed personal concern about her sister, Dr. Margaret Connolly, who was detained aboard one of the flotilla vessels. The flotilla operation — dubbed the Global Sumud (meaning steadfastness in Arabic) Flotilla — was intended to challenge the Israeli naval blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
