Fuse Energy's FAETON-X Sets Highest Publicly Documented Neutron Yield by a Fusion Company
Fuse Energy Technologies reported on August 10, 2026 that its megajoule-class dense plasma focus device FAETON-X — operating at 65 kV and storing roughly 1 MJ of energy — produced a peak yield of (1.27±0.27)×10^12 deuterium-deuterium neutrons in a single shot, with an average yield around 5×10^11 neutrons per shot at 10 Torr deuterium. The company says this is the first publicly documented neutron yield at that level by any fusion company, delivering about 40% more neutrons per megajoule than Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's MJOLNIR pulsed-power facility. FAETON-X reached the milestone nine months after its first shot. CEO JC Btaiche said 'fusion has reached an inflection point, and private companies are now at the forefront of technology development.' Fuse, based in San Leandro, California, generates near-term revenue from radiation-effects testing for defense and space customers while advancing toward commercial fusion energy.
