CFS Attains Two DOE Milestones for ARC Commercial Fusion Plant

| Fusion Energy

Commonwealth Fusion Systems announced on August 5, 2026 that it has attained two additional milestones under the US Department of Energy's Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program — this time for its commercial successor to SPARC, the ARC fusion power plant, rather than SPARC itself (the subject of CFS's first three DOE milestones). The two milestones recognize completion of an ARC preconceptual design and a technology roadmap detailing the engineering steps required to build the plant. The achievements build on CFS's five peer-reviewed physics-basis papers on ARC published in the Journal of Plasma Physics on June 4, 2026, and follow the company's $1 billion raise on July 30, 2026 that brought total capital to $4 billion.
