TEPCO Begins 21st Round of ALPS-Treated Water Discharge (FY2026 Third Batch)

TEPCO began the 21st batch of ALPS-treated water ocean discharge on July 6, 2026 at 11:41 a.m. local time, the third of eight planned FY2026 rounds. The release is scheduled to run through July 24, discharging approximately 7,800 tonnes of treated water containing roughly 1.3 trillion becquerels of tritium after dilution to below Japan's operational limit. The 20th batch (second FY2026 round, begun June 1) was completed June 20, 2026. Cumulative ocean discharge since the program began in August 2023 will exceed 140,000 m³ once the current round finishes.
