Joan of Arc Raises the Siege of Orléans
Joan of Arc, a 17-year-old peasant girl from Domrémy claiming divine visions, convinces Dauphin Charles VII to allow her to lead relief forces to the besieged city of Orléans. After nine days of fighting, English forces withdraw, turning the tide of the Hundred Years' War. Joan's campaign enables Charles VII's coronation at Reims (July 17, 1429). She is captured by the Burgundians, sold to the English, tried for heresy, and burned at the stake in Rouen (May 30, 1431).
