Former President Echeverría Faces Genocide Arrest Warrant on Final Day

On the last day of Fox's presidency, a judge issues a new genocide arrest warrant for former President Luis Echeverría for his role in the June 10, 1971 Corpus Christi massacre ('El Halconazo'). The warrant is the latest in a series of legal attempts to hold Echeverría accountable during Fox's term. The FEMOSPP had previously issued a landmark report in 2006 documenting state crimes including the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre and naming Echeverría as responsible. Echeverría remains free throughout; the cases are eventually dropped by subsequent governments.
