Columbus Reaches Cuba

| Conquest of Americas

Columbus reaches the northeastern coast of Cuba, naming it Juana. He believes it may be the Asian mainland or Japan. He sends emissaries inland looking for the Emperor of China, instead finding Taíno villages. Columbus explores the north coast of Cuba before sailing east toward another large island, which he will call Hispaniola. He collects gold, parrots, and cotton as evidence of the new lands' potential wealth.
