Ethiopian Media Authority Suspends Tigray TV Indefinitely

The Ethiopian Media Authority (EMA) indefinitely suspended Tigray Television on Sep 21, 2026, one day after the TPLF-aligned broadcaster carried the announcement of the new seven-group EPFAS coalition. The EMA cited 'severe violations of broadcasting standards and national security concerns,' alleging a 'continuous pattern of incendiary broadcasts' that 'incite conflict, encourage extremism, and directly jeopardize public safety.' The authority also barred all other Ethiopian outlets from citing or rebroadcasting Tigray TV content, warning of legal and administrative measures for violations. Tigray TV had resumed operating after an earlier ban imposed during the 2020-2022 war was lifted under the Pretoria agreement.
