Sisi Meets Iraq's Ammar al-Hakim in Cairo, Pledges Continued Support for Iraqi Security and Sovereignty

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met Ammar al-Hakim, head of Iraq's National Wisdom Movement (Hikma), in Cairo on September 24, 2026, alongside Hikma deputy head Mohsen al-Hakim, adviser Ahmed al-Hakim, Iraqi ambassador to Cairo Qahtan Taha al-Janabi, and Egyptian General Intelligence Service chief Hassan Rashad. Sisi pledged Egypt's continued support for measures taken by the Iraqi state to protect its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and discussed Baghdad's anti-corruption drive and efforts to consolidate weapons under state control. Al-Hakim said Egypt 'played a central role in regional security and stability, including by supporting Iraq's efforts to regain its leading place in the Arab world.' The two also addressed the Palestinian issue, with Sisi restating Egypt's position on implementing regional peace initiatives and establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
