Egypt's PM Champions Two-State Solution and Security Council Reform at UN General Assembly, Meets Bulgarian President

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, addressing the 81st UN General Assembly session in New York on September 23, 2026 on behalf of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, said the two-state solution for Palestine faces 'unprecedented challenges' from Israeli settlement expansion, land seizures and West Bank violence, and called for implementing both the Trump plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803 to secure a ceasefire, restore aid access and stand up a national committee to administer Gaza, alongside an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. At a separate peace breakfast with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Madbouly pressed for expanding permanent and non-permanent UN Security Council seats to give Africa fair representation. On the sidelines, Madbouly met Bulgarian President Rumen Radev's delegation led by President Iliana Iotova to discuss bilateral trade — which reached $1.5 billion in 2025 — energy cooperation and a proposed direct Cairo-Sofia flight route, and held bilateral talks with Kuwait's Crown Prince on economic coordination and investment.
