Sisi Orders Expansion of Data Centers, 5G and AI as Egypt Targets $12B in Digital Outsourcing Exports by 2029

Hany Mahmoud Mansour on September 19, 2026, directing the government to accelerate investment in hyper-scale data centers, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and nationwide 5G rollout. Officials outlined targets of $8 billion in digital exports by 2028 and $12 billion in digital outsourcing exports by 2029, alongside growing the number of electronics-design companies to 120 by 2030. The discussions also covered advancing 'Karnak,' Egypt's national program for Arabic-language generative AI positioned as part of a digital sovereignty strategy, expansion of the unified government services card, and new child-safety measures including social media restrictions for users under 13.
