| Egypt

An earthquake struck shortly after 3:00am Cairo time (0000 GMT) on August 3, 2026, with an epicenter roughly 38–40km north of Suez at a depth of 10km. Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics put the magnitude at 5.5–5.6 after revising an initial 5.2 reading; Germany's GFZ measured 5.4 and the US Geological Survey measured 5.0. Tremors were felt up to 400km from the epicenter across Cairo, the Nile Delta, Alexandria, and Port Said, and reached the Gaza Strip, Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon. Egypt's Health Ministry reported one injury. Authorities evacuated three families from a partially collapsed building in Cairo's Rod El-Farag district, and a balcony collapsed near the epicenter in Suez; no fatalities were reported. Hospitals and ambulance services were placed on alert in the hours after the quake.
