Sisi Inaugurates EGP 800 Billion New Delta Agricultural Megaproject
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi formally inaugurated the New Delta project on the Sheikh Zayed Axis in Giza — one of the largest agricultural infrastructure investments in Egypt's modern history. The project converts approximately 2.2 million feddans (~920,000 hectares) of Western Desert land into productive farmland, increasing Egypt's total cultivated area by over 20%. At an estimated cost of EGP 800 billion (~USD 15 billion), it is projected to create around 2 million jobs and significantly reduce Egypt's food import dependence. Prime Minister Madbouly subsequently confirmed that the project expands cultivated land by more than 20%, marking the most ambitious Egyptian desert reclamation effort since the Toshka scheme of the 1990s.
