ECDC: DRC Ebola Toll Rises to 7,890 Cases, 3,799 Deaths as Contact Tracing Rebounds to 83.4%

The ECDC's Ebola outbreak tracker, published 25 September 2026 at 16:05 CEST with data through 23 September, put DRC's confirmed toll at 7,890 cases and 3,799 deaths — up from 7,773 cases and 3,759 deaths in the prior (21 September) report, a rise of 117 cases and 40 deaths. Ituri remains the epicenter with 6,032 cases and 2,764 deaths across 28 of 36 health zones, followed by North Kivu with 1,480 cases and 884 deaths across 16 of 34 zones (a crude provincial case-fatality rate of roughly 59.7%). Haut-Uélé (322 cases/130 deaths, 7 of 13 zones), Tshopo (43/15, 7 of 23), Bas-Uélé (8/4, 3 of 11), South Kivu (3/1, 1 of 34) and Sud-Ubangi (2/1, 1 of 16) round out the seven affected provinces, with the outbreak still spanning 63 of 167 mapped health zones. National contact-tracing coverage rebounded to 83.4% of identified contacts, up from 79.9% in the 19 September report, continuing the metric's week-to-week volatility. The update recorded 893 patients currently hospitalized in isolation and 1,966 cumulative recoveries, for a crude national case fatality rate of roughly 48.2% — essentially unchanged from the prior report despite the continued rise in absolute numbers. The report comes two days after a US-convened G20+ Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New York mobilized roughly $2.9 billion in international commitments toward the response.
