ECDC Tracker Shows DRC Ebola Toll at 6,942 Cases, 3,349 Deaths; WHO Says 2,000 Frontline Workers Vaccinated

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control's Ebola outbreak tracker, updated 10 September 2026 with data through 9 September, recorded 6,942 confirmed cases and 3,349 deaths in DRC — a rise of 99 confirmed cases and 39 deaths since the 9 September report, with new cases concentrated in Ituri (47), North Kivu (46) and Haut-Uélé (4). Ituri province remained the epicenter with 5,508 cases and 2,501 deaths across 28 of 36 health zones, while North Kivu recorded 1,139 cases and 725 deaths across 16 of 34 health zones — a crude fatality rate of roughly 63.7%, well above the national average of 48.3%. As of the update, 823 patients remained hospitalized in isolation, with national contact-tracing coverage falling to 84.4% of identified contacts, down from 88.3% on 7 September. Separately, WHO said 10 September that roughly 2,000 frontline and health workers — stationed in Tshopo and Bas-Uélé provinces — have received the Ervebo (rVSV-ZEBOV) vaccine under the compassionate-use campaign DRC launched 27 August, still well short of the 50,000-dose target, while a Phase 3 clinical trial testing Ervebo's cross-protection against Bundibugyo virus remains on track for an October or November start using 20,000 reserved doses in Ituri.
