ECDC Tracker Shows DRC Ebola Toll at 6,757 Cases, 3,267 Deaths as of 7 September

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control's Ebola outbreak tracker, updated 9 September 2026 with data through 7 September, recorded 6,757 confirmed cases and 3,267 deaths in DRC — a rise of 71 confirmed cases and 41 deaths since the 5 September report, with new cases concentrated in Ituri (49), North Kivu (66 cumulative province rise) and smaller increments in Haut-Uélé, Tshopo, Bas-Uélé and South Kivu. Ituri province remained the epicenter with 5,406 cases and 2,450 deaths across 28 of 36 health zones, while North Kivu recorded 1,066 cases and 697 deaths across 16 of 34 health zones — a crude fatality rate of roughly 65.4%, well above the national average of 48.3%. As of the update, 1,590 patients had recovered and 813 remained hospitalized in isolation, with national contact-tracing coverage rising to 88.3% of identified contacts under active follow-up, up from 85.7% on 5 September. The update came a day after a WHO Geneva briefing flagged a shortfall of 1,600 treatment beds and 5,000 health workers as a continuing constraint on the response.
