DRC Ebola Deaths Surpass 1,800 as Health Workers Protest Unpaid Wages

| Ebola

The DRC Ministry of Health reported 3,973 confirmed cases and 1,801 deaths as of 6 August 2026, with roughly 90% of cases concentrated in Ituri Province. Health workers in Bunia protested for a second time, saying they had not received wages or bonuses since the outbreak was declared in mid-May; officials attributed the delays to logistical problems. Protester Edouige Makosi said: 'With this way of managing things, Ebola will not end in this province. We ask the authorities to get involved at all levels so that a solution is found quickly.'
