World Bank Group's IFC Invests $25M in Jumia to Expand African Digital Commerce
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group, announced a $25 million equity investment in Jumia Technologies AG on August 12, 2026, to expand digital commerce infrastructure across the roughly 8 African markets Jumia serves. The investment is projected to enable about 60,000 local annual active sellers to reach new markets, support around 1,800 direct jobs, and create income-generating opportunities for more than 100,000 independent sales agents — part of the World Bank's broader Digital Economy for Africa (DE4A) push to get every individual, business, and government on the continent digitally enabled by 2030.
