Amazon Leo Partners With Herotel to Launch 'evry' Rural Satellite Broadband in South Africa
Amazon Leo announced a partnership with Herotel, South Africa's largest fixed internet service provider, to launch a new satellite broadband service branded 'evry,' targeting underserved rural communities where fiber and wireless networks remain economically unfeasible. Herotel — which serves over 350,000 customers across 550+ towns via 120 offices — will handle installation and customer service, with commercial residential launch expected in 2027. The deal deepens competition among satellite providers expanding into South Africa, where Starlink's own license application remains stalled over BEE ownership requirements and the newly launched state-backed BrainSAT is also entering the market.
