Rand Paul Subpoenas Fauci to Testify on COVID Origins and Gain-of-Function Funding

Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Rand Paul issued the committee's first subpoena under his chairmanship, compelling Dr. Anthony Fauci to testify on July 29, 2026 after Fauci backed out of a previously agreed voluntary appearance. Paul said the hearing will examine Fauci's 2025 presidential pardon, gain-of-function research funding at the Wuhan Institute of Virology that Fauci had denied, and alleged destruction of federal records. Paul indicated Fauci could challenge the subpoena in court.
